Strong Enough to Crack

Medium: Oil on canvas
Size: 65 W x 81 H x 2 cm
Year: 2020

This painting is based on a portrait of a Lithuanian friend, captured in a raw, unfiltered moment — one of those late-night instants where the mask slips and something real comes through.

What interested me wasn’t the setting or the story behind the photo, but the feeling it carried: the weight of someone who’s endured a lot. There’s a strength in her presence, but it’s tangled with vulnerability. You can sense resilience, yes — but also the cracks that form when you’ve had to hold yourself together for too long.

The painting became less about the likeness and more about that emotional contrast: powerful and broken, present and disappearing. It’s a portrait of the invisible weight many carry — and how beauty often lives right alongside damage.

This artwork is an original oil painting on high-quality stretched cotton canvas.

It was built up over multiple layers using professional-grade oil paints, allowing for depth, richness, and subtle tonal transitions.

The surface has been carefully varnished to protect the colors and provide a unified, slightly satin finish that enhances the details and brushwork.

The painting is signed on the front and will come with a certificate of authenticity. Edges are painted, so it can be hung without a frame if desired.

Durable, archival, and made to last a lifetime.
