Social Gravity

Medium: Oil on canvas
Size:100 W x 73 H x 2 cm
Year: 2020

This painting is about those fleeting social moments when you cross paths with someone you didn’t expect — someone outside your usual circle — and end up sharing a drink, a story, or a strange kind of connection. It happens in the streets, at parties, festivals, squats, bars… a can of beer often becomes the shared object that temporarily erases barriers.

There’s something fascinating about how fast we can switch from strangers to something resembling intimacy — even if just for an hour. Sometimes it’s just small talk, sometimes it’s a surreal, honest conversation that sticks with you for years. The painting reflects that in-between zone — that tension between connection and alienation.

The person on the left is more like a silhouette, faceless and abstracted — a symbol for the unknown, the people we meet without knowing who they truly are or what they carry inside. The one on the right is softer, more visible, more “here.” It’s almost like we only reveal part of ourselves in these moments — and the rest stays in the shadows.

It’s a painting about openness, randomness, and the subtle weight of who we choose to open a drink with.

This artwork is an original oil painting on high-quality stretched cotton canvas.

It was built up over multiple layers using professional-grade oil paints, allowing for depth, richness, and subtle tonal transitions.

The surface has been carefully varnished to protect the colors and provide a unified, slightly satin finish that enhances the details and brushwork.

The painting is signed on the front and will come with a certificate of authenticity. Edges are painted, so it can be hung without a frame if desired.

Durable, archival, and made to last a lifetime.
